Larry Fortune

Overview

Larry Fortune (Retired) was the president of Fortune Associates, a prominent real estate firm with deep roots in California’s Central Valley. Born and raised in Fresno, Larry has dedicated his career to serving the community and shaping the region’s real estate landscape. A Stanford University graduate, Larry returned to Fresno in 1974 after several years in banking in San Francisco to join the real estate office his father founded in 1965. Over the decades, he has built a legacy grounded in leadership, service, and expertise, earning respect across both the public and private sectors.

Experience

Larry’s career has spanned numerous leadership roles, both within the real estate industry and in civic and educational organizations. He began his real estate journey after gaining financial experience at the Bank of California, leveraging that knowledge to grow the family firm into one of the region’s most respected brokerages. A committed industry leader, he served as President of the Fresno Association of REALTORS®, was named REALTOR® of the Year by the Association in 1986. He is also recognized as an Honorary Director for Life by the California Association of REALTORS®, reflecting his lasting impact on the profession.

Beyond real estate, Larry has served in significant civic capacities. He currently chairs the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (C.A.R.T School) and holds positions with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Foundation for Public Safety, Fresno County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee, City of Fresno Redevelopment Agency Project Area Committee, and multiple other regional boards. His influence extends into economic development, education, law enforcement support, and housing advocacy.

Larry has also contributed to the judicial system in several roles. He has been appointed as a receiver by the Fresno County Superior Court and served as a Chapter XI Trustee by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California. Recognized as an expert in real estate, he has provided testimony in civil and criminal court cases across Fresno, Madera, Kern, and Santa Clara counties, as well as in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. In addition, he has acted as a court-appointed mediator in both Fresno and Monterey Counties.

Education & Affiliations

Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1970, laying the foundation for a career marked by professionalism and community commitment. In 1981, he graduated from the REALTORS® Institute (GRI), enhancing his real estate credentials and expertise.

He has been actively involved with numerous professional and community organizations throughout his career. In addition to his REALTOR® affiliations, Larry has served on the boards of the Fig Garden Police Protection District, Better Business Bureau, Central California Blood Center, Tree Fresno, Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame, Fresno Police Activities League, and many more. He also represented Fresno County as the private sector member of the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley and contributed to both the State and Regional Workforce Investment Boards.

Larry has been married to his wife Jane, for over 30 years and is a proud father of two children. His life’s work reflects a deep and lasting commitment to service, leadership, and the betterment of the Fresno community and beyond.
